My first newsletter of 2024!! I have wonderful tip of the week. A survey you can fill in if you wish to do so. I have great news about my payment form. And a question about yarn. I could really use your advice on this one. I also tell you about a translating request I got from someone that shocked me a bit.
My new pattern
First something about my new Barbie pattern. For those who missed it, I have a new Barbie pattern for a crochet wedding dress and a tuxedo for Ken. Here’s a picture real quick so you can see what I am talking about.

That brings me to the second topic of my newsletter: the alternative payments form. Last week I announced I had a new payment form on my website to pay with alternative payment methods: Bancontact, Ideal, Sofort, Sepa, Mybank, Przelewy24, Mercado Pago, Venmo, Eps, Giropay, Blik. That form did not work properly and when people purchased something with that form, the money was returned to their account. My friend had died that day (poor lady was still so young) and I was in no shape to deal with that payment form problem so I turned it off.
A couple of days later i felt better and managed to find a solution = a better program to accept these payment methods. I found one and it works like a charm! I had it tested by several people and all were able to pay successfully. So Bancontact, Ideal, … all work properly now= if you want to purchase patterns with these payment methods you can now.
Note: these payment methods are made available to me and you by PayPal. But you do not need to pay with PayPal. You also don’t need a PayPal account. You will also not be paying on PayPal. PayPal is just simply going to direct you to your preferred payment method.
A good way of explaining what I mean is: a child earned some pocket money and wants to buy a new doll. This child cannot drive but really wants to go to the store. So this child needs someone to bring him or her to that store = mommy brings to child to the store. The child then buys the new doll with his or her pocket money in that store.
You are that child, mommy is PayPal that brings you to your preferred payment method (Bancontact, Ideal, …) and the store is that preferred payment method= PayPal is your transport to that preferred payment method.
Because PayPal is your transport to that preferred payment method, after clicking on the button of that payment method, you will see a PayPal logo or a PayPal loading thingy for a few seconds while PayPal is transporting you to the site or app of your preferred payment method, just like the child will see mommy’s car while she brings the child to the store.
I hope you understand what I mean with this explanation.

Yarn
I have a question for you about glow in the dark yarn. Does this yarn really glow in the dark? Is it soft enough for amigurumi? Is this yarn worth buying?
I saw this is already available where I live but would like your advice first before I buy this yarn.

As I told you before, I am planning on making many, many more Barbie patterns. I have so many good ideas. I don’t really know where to start though. That is why I made the survey you’ll see below. You can fill in what you would like the next pattern to be. Who knows I might choose your idea first. That would be fun wouldn’t it? The person whose idea gets chosen then gets that pattern for free.
That translating request
You may know already that I have a translating service. It means I translate crochet and knitting patterns for people.
2 days ago I got a request to translate 4 patterns from English to Dutch. I really wanted to accept this job but I saw that it used an AI generated pictures ( so FAKE crocheted doll pictures) and that the end result was nowhere near as pretty. Ugly to be completely honest. This person was planning to trick people by showing a beautiful crochet doll (AI generated) and then give a pattern to buyers of a rather ugly doll that looked a tiny bit like the AI pictures.
It’s so upsetting to see that people are tricking crochet pattern buyers with these fake AI pictures. And this person wanted me to translate those patterns. Not happening! I cannot be a part of this trickery. I just simply cannot be. Even though translating patterns is keeping food on the table, I could not accept this job. Lost an opportunity to earn some extra money towards fixing my earthquake damaged house but at least I did not lose my integrity. That’s all that matters 😊😊
Tip of the week
This tip is about “YARN UNDER” crocheting. This method is slightly different from the usual method but for amigurumi it is so much better. With the “YARN UNDER” you prevent holes and it just looks so much better. I found you a video that shows exactly how I do it. It’s not my video but since the lady explains it so very well there’s no point in making a video myself and take away viewers from her channel.
The video is in English but because she shows it so very well, the spoken language really doesn’t matter.

Ik heb 1x voor iemand planeten gehaakt van een kant en klaar pakket. Daar zat acrylgaren bij (waar ik niet mee werk) en een soort borduurgaren dat glow in the dark was.
Ik heb gewoon met katoen de planeten gehaakt en met het losse glow in the dark garen de streepjes enzo geborduurd.
Het gaf echt enigszins licht in het donker/schemer. Dus ik dénk ik haakkatoen ook wel.

AI is een enge ontwikkeling, goed dat je daar niet aan mee doet.
Of de blow in the dark gaten ook echt gloeien weet ik niet, heb ook meerdere keren gedacht om het eens te proberen. Maar eigenlijk nog niet gedaan.
Lijkt me leuk voor 11 November, dan versieren wij altijd onze voortuin voor de kindjes die liedjes komen zingen voor snoepjes.
Fijne zondag
Ik zal toch eens een bolletje van die garen kopen. Ben te nieuwsgierig om het niet te doen.
Ik denk dat AI een gevaarlijke bedoening zal worden. Men kan nep foto’s maken om iemand te beschuldigen van iets dat ze niet gedaan hebben. Ai leek leuk in het begin maar door misbruik is het gevaarlijk geworden.
