No fake patterns for/from me

Haven’t made a blog post/newsletter in a long time but now I’m making one anyway. It’s about those awful AI (fake) patterns that we see so much these days. Do you hate it too? Then be sure to read on.

Those awful AI patterns

You must have already seen them on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, …. Those awful Ai patterns and pictures are everywhere. And they bother enormously. Many people see that they are fake and just scroll on but a lot of people don’t see that they are fake. They then click on them and often even buy the (fake) pattern. The thought alone…..

Those sellers really have no shame. Selling fake patterns and taking your money for a pattern they know is not real. The end result of your crochet work is then 1 of the 2 following things:

1. the end result looks nothing like that in the photo

2. the end result is something that looks a little like it but your doll is more like a sickly version of what is in the picture

Neither are what you want from a pattern you paid for.

This here is such an example. Very beautiful angel it is but this is a FAKE pattern. It is not real. So don’t buy it.

Problem is when you ask on Facebook if there is a pattern for it : you are sometimes laughed at. They then say things like « you can see it’s fake ». Then what happens = People eventually don’t dare ask if something is real.

So what I will do now is give the option to ask me if a pattern is real. Here is how it works for people who are not sure if a pattern is real:

If you are not sure if a pattern is real, just send me an email to: [email protected] with the picture of the pattern you would like to buy. I’ll take a look to see if it’s real. That way you can be sure you won’t lose your money.

My own patterns are real!

All my Craftygenesindonesia / Sofie Versluys crochet patterns and knitting patterns are real! 100%, completely, all REAL! I don’t participate in all this AI (fake) patterns stuff. I absolutely do not participate in it.

All my patterns are completely designed by me. I crochet or knit them all myself. I type the patterns myself. I translate them into English, French, Spanish, … myself. I take the pictures myself. Everything is completely done and created by me. Nothing by Ai. Absolutely nothing.

And for those who don’t know: my patterns are available at this website = Craftygenesindonesia.com. They are also all available on Haked.nl and in the Craftygenesindonesia shops on Etsy and Ravelry.

Tip: on my Craftygenesindonesia website (so here), one can order with PayPal or Credit Card. Those who prefer to order with Ideal, Bancontact, Sepa, Sofort, KBC, ..or even bank transfer, do so best on the Dutch website Haked.nl. My patterns are all there too and ordering does not go wrong. Bank transfer is to the Haked bank account though lol. So NOT to my own old bank account as it is no longer in use due to a nasty change in the law for people abroad (i.e. me).

Another thing I do to show that my patterns are definitely real is to leave a spelling mistake in my patterns. Example: past instead of passed. I leave that on purpose. Ai or fake patterns don’t have those spelling mistakes. So when I leave my tiny spelling mistakes, people see that the pattern is therefore indeed made by a human being.

I do NOT leave a pattern error though. 20sc instead of 200sc for example I would correct immediately and definitely NOT leave it. A pattern error is not acceptable and I do not want it.

In the pictures I also leave « mistakes ». Example: a hat that has a brim that is curled a little too much. Or a pair of pants that hangs just a little too much at an angle. Or even an ant in the background in the photo. I leave those in. That way people see that the photo is real and not a fake photo or Ai photo. People are then 100% sure.

Videos

I now also make short videos of all my dolls and crochet work. At least of the ones I still have. I gave away some crochet work as gifts but I still have at least 90% of all my crochet work. So I am now making short videos of everything. These I post 1 a day on social media. So this is how people see that my crochet and knitting patterns are indeed real. These little videos are also in my Craftygenesindonesia shop on Etsy.

I plan of posting those somewhere here on my website as well but have yet to figure out how to do that nicely.

If you would like to see them now , you can do so here:

  1. Instagram: Craftygenesindonesia crochet knitting pattern designer (@craftygenesindonesia) • Instagram photos and videos
  2. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/tXH6ezbew9fU77fH/?mibextid=qi2Omg (that is my personal Facebook account and where those videos are placed)
  3. YouTube: Craftygenesindonesia – YouTube
  4. Pinterest: https://pin.it/3Zx1x72jI
  5. TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@craftygenesindonesia?is_from_webapp=1sender_device=pc

Almost every day I post a new video there. In those videos you will see flags of different countries at the bottom. The pattern is then available in those languages. American flag = English language. Dutch flag = Dutch language, French flag = French language, …

Will add here that all my patterns are already available in English, Dutch and French. And almost all of them in Spanish already too. As soon as they are all also in Spanish I will then start with another extra language.

So those flags are not decoration as someone thought last week. Those flags are to show what languages the pattern is available in.

A word about my newsletter

I got rid of the old newsletters from before . Don’t know what to do with it yet. Actually want to go a different direction with it. Not a weekly newsletter or anything. Just an occasional newsletter/blog post like this one. And once I have a free pattern or something I might post it here too. Will think hard about what I will do.

Speaking of free patterns. I plan to post free pattern videos/tutorials on YouTube. Of those little videos where I then show how to crochet something. From the very first row until it is completely finished. You will know what I mean.

I’ll wait a bit until I have enough subscribers/members. In case you don’t know: joining my Craftygenesindonesia YouTube channel is free.

Making videos does take time and since I am the sole breadwinner for a family of 6 with my crochet patterns, I have to make sure that if I spend a whole day or even week making a video, that I don’t lose money due to lost crochet/work hours. After all, have to make sure I can put food on the table. Therefore , the right number of subscribers and viewing hours is needed on YouTube. Once I have enough, I can make some money from those tutorial videos on YouTube. That way you get free pattern videos and I get food on the table. Good combination isn’t it? And advantage of such video notes is that then you can see what to do in those video notes and everything is clearer. However, a printable version of each pattern would still be available for those who prefer to use a written pattern.

Am already working on a pattern for a YouTube video. Will take a while yet but it will come. In the meantime, I do post the occasional tutorial video on my YouTube channel. Like when a lady had some trouble with 2 rows of the arm of my Isabella the Easter Bunny crochet pattern. To explain it easily, I just made a short video about that technique and posted it on YouTube.

That’s it for this time. Best stop typing because otherwise I would keep typing. Haha.

Until the next newsletter ❤️❤️❤️
