In this tutorial I’ll show you how to crochet the star stitch. It’s a really easy stitch. I always thought it was a difficult one and avoided learning it. But once I learned it, I immediately regretted not learning it a whole lot earlier. This stitch is such a pretty one and soooo easy! It’s a really nice stitch for bags, purses, blankets, … you can even use it for headbands.
First up is my YouTube tutorial about this stitch. In it I make my star stitches in the back loops of the previous row but you can also make them in both loops. It will then look slightly different than my star stitch of course.

Below is my step by step picture tutorial. To start make sure you have an even amount of stitches. And make sure that you don’t make the chains too tight. You want them slightly loose.

- Picture 1: chain 4
- Picture 2: pull through the first loop
- Picture 3: pull through the second loop

- Picture 4: pull through the third loop
- Picture 5: pull through the fourth loop (work in the back loop of the stitch of the previous row)
- Picture 6: pull through the fifth loop (work in the back loop of the stitch of the previous row)

- Picture 7: you now have 6 loops on your hook. Pull the yarn through all 6 loops
- Picture 8: should look like this now
- Picture 9: make 1 chain but not too tight

- Start the second star stitch now:
- Picture 10: pull through the first loop
- Picture 11: should look like this
- Picture 12: pull through the second loop

- Picture 13: pull through the third loop
- Picture 14: pull through the fourth loop (in the back loop of the stitch of the previous row)
- Picture 15: pull through the fifth loop (in the back loop of the stitch of the previous row)

- Picture 16: should look like this now
- Picture 17: pull yarn through all loops
- Picture 18: make 1 chain
That is the star stitch! It’s really a lot easier than it looks. Once you get it, you’ll be able to make beautiful things with this stitch. It’s one worth learning.
