In this tutorial I’ll explain to you one of the very basic crochet stitches= the single crochet in a (starting) chain. This is one you need to learn. But don’t worry, it’s a very simple stitch.
I suggest you start with thick yarn and a big hook. Then once you’ve mastered it, you can try with thinner yarn. The reason why I suggest thick yarn first is because that’s easier to hold than thin yarn. But once you are used to it, using thin yarn won’t be a problem.
First up is my YouTube tutorial about the single crochet in a chain. Feel free to subscribe to my YouTube channel (that’s free) and to like to video.
Below you’ll find the step by step picture tutorial. I suggest you practice a couple of times. Just so that you’ll have even stitches = all the same size. Have a look at how I hold everything if you have trouble holding the small crocheted piece or the yarn gets messed up. It takes a few minutes of practice to get the hang of things. But don’t worry, you’ll get there though.

Now that you know how to make the single crochet in a chain, you can learn the chain 1 and turn. You’ll need this one next to crochet back to the other side.
