Lesson 10, January 18th 2023
I’m baaaaack!!! Today was the first lesson of the year and the first in several weeks! I was soooooo worried that the girls would not remember how to crochet. But the surprise me. Big time!
So many girls!
Since it’s quite a while that I’ve seen the girls, I had no idea who would show up and who would not. There were 15 girls in total. Some were new and some couldn’t join. Those who could not join had no choice in the matter though. They are girls from 6th grade who are very busy studying for those so very important exams they’ll have soon. So all the focus is on that. We want them to get good grades so they can definitely go to high school.
The new girls are friends of some of the existing girls. They had already learned the basics of crochet during the school holiday end of the December. So they didn’t come totally clueless.
Much to my relieve, the existing girls all still knew how to crochet. Some of those who weren’t that good the last time (which was in November. That flies doesn’t it?), could crochet neat stitches this time.
I was sooooooo relieved. Had worried none of them would still know how to crochet.

She finished her coin purse!!!
One of my girls who used to be a little slow with learning to crochet, came up to me and showed me her FINISHED coin purse. Wow!!!!! During the last crochet lesson in November she could not even crochet a whole row without making holes or skipping stitches or something that would mess it all up. And here she was holding her finished coin purse!!!! And that’s not all…. it looked sooooo pretty! I was very very impressed!
Running around
The girls seemed to have forgotten one thing though….I don’t like kids running around like chickens. Not on my watch. So when they tried it, it was “sit down or I will need to glue you to your chair!” Kindly ordered of course. Don’t want them to think I’m an ogre. Then there was this one girl who sat on her chair like a lazy cat who had just eaten way too much. What on earth?????? I looked at her over my glasses and said no proper young lady sits like that!
Not only is it a really unattractive way to sit, it’s also not good for her back at all and it could easily become a very bad habbit. So none of them while I’m teaching.
Plans for next week
There will be a school fair next month and everyone is really excited about that. It will not only be a lot of fun, but it will be a good way for the school to show everyone that this school has crochet lessons. And we’re adding crafts to the lesson. Not just crochet but also cross stitching and other things. Once a month 1 lesson will be about that. With cheap materials so we don’t have to empty the parents their wallets.
We’ll start with making this cute Christmas ornaments the girls had seen in my tree. They’re homemade and soooo easy to make with small styrofoam balls and pompoms. That will be fun to make. I’ll add a short tutorial to my blog with pictures so that you can make them too.
